Report from the Birdfeeder/Natl. Poetry Month

Inspired by Report from the Birdfeeder p. 90 in Works & Days by Bernadette Mayer

Birdfeeder I am a bird feeder
song bird mix on the deck railing
meal worms in the metal dish
who will get them first?
this morning it was the bluebird pair
yesterday it was the mockingbird
One mockingbird
One falling cherry blossom
One house finch
Tuesday I broke my Mondrian coffee cup
Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow
mockingbird
55 degrees and cloudy
neighborhood garbage day
the grain of the oak table golden oak
golden swirly swirls curls of gold
frost warning tonight
female cardinal
the male waits in the crepe myrtle
the coffee cup changed color when hot from black to
Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow
tweet tweet
the cardinal couple finish each other’s sentences
one house finch
then his mate then his BFF
then his BFF’s mate then her sister
cardinal bluebird goldfinch
Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow
sparrow brown
like the table, only less golden
still 55 degrees
the cherry blossoms fall
the clouds do not
the garbage truck is on the next street
then the next street
then the next street
tweet tweet
the birds are discussing nests
golden twigs
cherry blossoms
then they fly away
composition of swirly swirls
below the clouds
