Simply 6 Minutes for 3/5/24

I slept in a chair on the dock. I woke up wondering, where does our soul go? I wondered if mine had managed to wander without me. I drank two glasses of wine with dinner. Maybe I left her sitting on the toilet at three a.m.

‘Should you be down here?’ Brody’s voice came from my right.

‘Should you?’ I asked.

He slowly lowered himself in the water and swam away.

Forty minutes passed and a shivering Brody reappeared.

‘Do you see things?’ I asked.

‘Sometimes.’

‘Aren’t you afraid?’

‘What is there to be afraid of?’

‘I don’t know. The lake is dark and deep, so I thought you would be afraid of swimming with what you can’t see.’

Brody walked to my chair and held out his hand. ‘C’mon. I’ll walk you up to the house.’

‘No, not yet. I promise I will go up soon.’

I kept my promise

Later I saw Brody walk back to the dock to see if I was still there.

This is not a new piece, it is part of a novella I am writing. Whether this survives the final edits, remains to be seen.
